Today’s date is one of those once-a-century dates; it’s also the 7th birthday of the toddler I used to babysit when I was in high school (she was born 07/07/00 — an awesome date in and of itself!) so it’s kind of freaky to think she’s 7 today. Wow. Life passes you by, doesn’t it? Or maybe it’s just me. Today makes me wish I had to take notes in class and therefore write the date on the top of my sheet of notes… but alas.
New York has been treating us well so far. Though we’ve been seeing more of my parents than we’ve seen in the last three years in the last week, it’s been fun, I guess, being able to not only be here in Manhattan but have the opportunity to be in the center of things. I feel like I’m surrounded by interesting things — both in New York City and the Tri-State area, and all — and it’s such a different feeling than the one I got in Pittsburgh. I felt a little oddly west of everyone, sort of like I lived on the edge of a cliff. (Yes, I have visual images for the places I am geographically.) I wonder what it’d feel like to be on the west coast. That’s a place I’ve never been.
We just brought up a bunch of new boxes (and crap) from Bryan’s parents’ house yesterday, so I have a lot of sorting and packing away to do. I hate having boxes lying around, but Bryan certainly hates it more. He complains and whines a lot about my needing to unpack faster (and really, he’s right; I’ve been being a lazy bum about it) and so I should probably go do some more of that.
Later today we head to my parents and then up to my cousin’s house where he’ll be celebrating his 40th birthday. (This is my first cousin, too.) We haven’t seen him or his family in years and I haven’t seen my aunt and other cousin in a while, too, so it’ll be interesting. Certainly also because Bryan and I are officially engaged. That should make things a bit interesting in the least. Bryan’s not really looking forward to it and I don’t blame him. I barely know about 95% of the guests myself, and at least half might be related to me by blood or marriage. Oh, well.
Off to packing! Happy 07/07/07!
