the random ponderings of e. f. danehy

wherein erin discusses writing & young adult fantasy (using much parenthetical commentary & tangential ramblings).

reading list

Because every writer is a reader and this writer is a big reader who also blogs about what she reads, I’ve included a list of a lot of the books I’ve read so you can better contextualize my frame of reference and reactions.

Children’s and Young Adult Books

A list of books I’ve read, enjoyed, and/or blogged about in all subject genres that are geared specifically toward children and young adults.

Adult Fantasy Books

Fantasy books specifically appropriate for adults (though adults can, of course, enjoy books for children and young adults, too) that I’ve read, enjoyed, and/or blogged about.

Adult Books in Other Genres

Because the fantasy list is quite long, I’ve pulled out the adult books I’ve read or discussed that are not either traditionally classified as fantasy or are simply not fantasy.

Classics, Noteworthy Works, & Critical Texts

This list includes books and works published before, say, the mid-twentieth century, along with modern and older literary criticism texts I’ve found influential or informative through my research.

In addition, you may be interested in reading about the thesis I wrote several years ago entitled “Girls Who Save the World: The Female Hero in Young Adult Fantasy.” More about that can be found on over on the main website.
