I was absorbed. Thwwwp.

( “Thwwwp” is the official sound of me being sucked into a book.)

I finished Shaman’s Crossing (started 9/19; finished 9/21) the other day and promptly read and finished Forest Mage (started 9/21; finished 9/23), its sequel. Surprising, and very different from her other trilogies, but I was nonetheless absorbed and addicted. What is it about her first person narration that seems so different from other first person narration? There is a running theme in her Fitz/Nevare books now of a very close attention to the body and personal space and changes therein. The physical aspect of her characters’ lives is very important (as it should be) but so often authors tend to concentrate, I think, more on the plot and action rather than updating us on how the narrator physically looks and feels. It’s gritty and real, and I think I like it.
