an accomplished week

I like to tell myself this week has been accomplished… rather, I accomplished things this week and I am proud.

Let’s see… I wrote a heck of a lot and deleted a heck of a lot in the main document I’m working on. The goal is looking better if not easier. I’ve mentally shifted around some things and my fingers haven’t quite caught up to where my brain is. Also I’m breaking ground with brand new scenes that need to be written badly and I’m happy about that; I say breaking ground because I sort of need to write to discover what will happen sometimes. Sometimes my crazy impulses work out, other times they don’t, but I can’t know that until I try.

I also read several books: Magic Study (the sequel to Poison Study) by Maria V. Snyder, which was really good for a sequel. Kept up the action and my interest, despite Book 1′s love interest coming in fairly late to the plot… but that’s okay. He made up for that. I also read Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara, the first book of the Chronicles of Elantra series. I’m waiting on Cast in Courtlight — I have Cast in Secret on the shelf over there, talk about grr. I read Magic Study in a day — a matter of hours; talk about a “thwwwp” book — though Cast in Shadow took two days. That’s the odd part about that book: I’m still trying to understand why I read it at all, why I’m even looking forward to the sequel. For the life of me I can’t figure that out. The book’s plot was complicated and told in a clumsy way, the main character wasn’t very intelligent but she asked all the right questions… I find myself saying that I enjoyed the character dynamics, that I felt for them, and I was therefore committed to their story. I am confused! Why did I read that book so fast? (I attribute it to my natural blazing reading speed, which is blazing.) Gah!

In other news, we’re going to our friend Michelle’s house party tomorrow. I’m excited; we haven’t seen each other in a few weeks, and I’m excited to see the other folks who will be in attendance. I baked for it. The cookies I made are addictive. (What contains butter, flour, cinnamon, and sugar — only those — and is not highly addictive, may I ask?) Yay!

We also are doing a free trial of Netflix. It would be awesome except the DVDs we rented are sitting here, waiting for the weekend when Bryan can watch them. Our turnover is a result of Bryan’s free time, not Netflix’s speediness. They have a Manhattan warehouse, which is good to know.

For now, let’s hope I keep the productivity high. (Also: TV this week was good. Only one more show of Mad Men before the season is over? Cry!)
